Finding something to wear has just gotten easier with this DIY off the shoulder top from men's button up. This top only took me a few minutes to make.It was a perfect get up for a day out. Although I made this top using my sewing machine, fabric glue would work just fine. The best thing about this top is how comfortable it is. Lately my style has been consisting of flats, loose fitting tops paired up with skinny jeans and minimal accessories. In minutes you have a sexy top that you can wear for a brunch with the girls or dress it up for that surprise date night.
Total Outfit Cost: $10.00
Gap Button Up (Thrifted) - $5.00
Shoes (Trifted) - $5.00
Old Jeans (Express) - $0.00
Materials Needed:
Men's Button Up (Thrifted)
Sewing Machine (optional)
Fabric Glue (optional)
Scissors
Thread
3/8" Elastic
Seam Gauge
Ruler
Marking Chalk/Marker
Step 1
Find a Men's Button up that fits you just right.
Step 2
Measure 4" from shoulder seam to 1.5" above armhole.
Step 3
Draw a line using your ruler and marking chalk/marker 1.5" above armhole all the way across to other armhole.
Step 4
Cut shirt using the marked line.
Step 5
Measure elastic around arms and shoulder blades.
Step 6
Cut elastic so it is a little snug to hold the top up.
Step 7
Make casing for elastic band around the top of the shirt by hemming the top 3/8" and folding over until no raw edges are showing.
Step 8
Sew or glue along the edge of the created casing and leave an opening to thread elastic through.
Step 9
Using a safety pin, pin one side of the elastic and start threading through the casing by using the closed safety pin. (Make sure to hold the other end of the elastic so it doesn't not go through the casing.)
Step 10
Finish the top by sewing the two elastic ends together and sewing up the casing.
